Adelaide City Car Rental FAQs

No, at Redspot Adelaide City, we respect your privacy and don’t monitor your speed or general activity in our vehicles. That said, take it easy on the pedal! 

If you receive a speeding ticket or a fine in one of our rental vehicles, we won’t be able to pay the fee ourselves. If this happens, we will email the bill and charge a $55 admin fee. Ultimately, it’s easier for everyone if you drive within the speed limit and follow local rules to make your trip as hassle-free as possible.

Yes, some rental cars may film you with a dashcam or rearview camera for safety reasons. Here at Redspot, we value full transparency. That’s why we’ll be sure to tell you whether your vehicle is equipped with either camera in the rental agreement. 

You can rest assured that none of our cars have any internal cameras installed in your rental vehicle. Your privacy is important to us, so that you can hit the road with absolute peace of mind.

Renting a car in Australia requires that you:

• Be over 21 years old.
• Present a valid credit card OR debit card* OR purchase order/prepaid voucher** in the renter’s name.
• Present a valid, physical driver’s licence in the renter’s name. Note: Digital licences, photos or copies are generally not accepted.
• Present valid driver’s licence/s for any additional drivers, who must be present at the time of vehicle pick-up.

If you are an international visitor, you must also present your physical passport and valid full driver’s licence at vehicle pick-up. 

*Debit cards: Must have the customer’s name displayed, and the ability to make online payments e.g. Visa or Mastercard debit cards.

**Purchase order or prepaid vouchers: Customers must also supply a valid credit card or Visa/Mastercard debit card for any incidental expenses (extensions, fuel charges, etc.).

For rental car pick-up, your vehicle comes with a full tank of fuel so you can get rolling ASAP. For returns, you have a few refuelling choices on hand. Fuel options include: 

1. Prepay for a full tank at a discounted rate at the start of your rental period. This will save you the hassle of filling it up later, just note that there’s no refund for unused fuel.  
2. Refuel your rental vehicle before returning it. You can refuel the car yourself right before returning it (fuel tank must show as full).

Only get charged for the fuel you use through our refuelling station on your return. This is available at a higher rate than the pre-paid fuel option.

Yes, tourists are more than welcome to rent a car in Adelaide City! Temporary visitors can show their valid overseas driver’s licence and passport to rent vehicles from Redspot.

If you’re enjoying your time in Australia and stay for longer than 3 months, then you’ll need to transition to a local driver’s licence. The rules for this depend on the state or territory you’re travelling in. Be sure to check in with our friendly Adelaide City team for local advice. 

Note: Make sure to bring a physical driver’s licence to the car rental branch. Certain digital licences or passports are not accepted as valid documents.* If your licence is not in English, we’ll need a translated version from your embassy or traffic authority in your home country.

Yes, you can head across the border from Melbourne to Adelaide in a Redspot hire car. Plus, with Redspot, you won’t need to pay any cross-border fees to take your adventures across different Aussie states! Wander to your heart’s content. 

If you are booking a one-way car hire (e.g. picking your car up in Melbourne and dropping it off in Adelaide City), this is where ‘one-way rental fees’ are involved. The exact dollar amount varies depending on the distance from Point A to Point B and if there are any complications in getting the car back. 

One-way fees are included in the total price when you get a rental car quote on our website. Fully transparent, so you know exactly what’s involved in your budget from Day 1.

Yes, rental companies typically have GPS trackers installed in their vehicles in case anything happens to the driver, or the vehicle goes missing for whatever reason. 

At Redspot, certain vehicles, such as mine spec utes, may have a GPS tracker installed for driver safety. This way, we can send roadside assistance ASAP if an accident occurs in a remote location. We value full transparency and will inform you during the hiring phase if your vehicle has a tracker.

Depends on your travel plans! Costs will vary by vehicle type, booking duration, useful add-ons, seasonal factors and more.

A mystery car rental is for all our surprise-loving, deal-chasing friends. At Redspot, we offer a vehicle determined upon pick-up for you at a discounted rate. You’ll know the basics like how many people it seats, if it’s automatic or manual and the lot. But the rest is up to us! Because we all need more adventure in our lives.

Yes, you will need to pay a bond to rent with Redspot, as you would with any other Aussie car rental company. The exact bond amount will depend on your booking plan and vehicle criteria. With Redspot, this typically ranges between $100 to $1000. 

Provided there are no additional charges at the end of your rental, this bond will be returned to the same card you paid with. If there are any additional charges (damages, late returns, etc.), these may be deducted from the bond before it is refunded. 

After your rental car is returned safe and sound, the bond is usually released within 3-5 business days. This may vary depending on your bank or debit/credit card provider.

You sure can! We’re one of the few Aussie companies that give the green light for local P-platers over 21 to rent a car. Mine-spec and commercial vehicles included. 

Keeping you safe is our top priority, so we have a few safety rules that are designed to make sure you get from Point A to Point B without a hitch. 

If you are a P-plater, you must:

• Hold a Provisional P2 licence (green Ps).
• Hold a driver’s licence that is valid for a minimum of 12 months from the date of rental collection.

When you rent a car, remember to factor in the daily surcharge. This surcharge applies to all drivers holding an Australian provisional driver’s licence. Keep in mind that P-platers can also reduce damage cover to a maximum of $330. 

Aged between 21 and 25? You have access to our range of small to medium-sized sedans and hatchbacks. Provisional drivers over the age of 25 can enjoy renting any vehicle available from our entire fleet.

Yes, multiple drivers can hit the road with a hire car. Just make sure any drivers present their valid driver’s licence at vehicle pick-up, and you’ll be ready to roam. Usual T&Cs apply.
