Did you know the Australian Franchise sector generates $144 Billion per annum and is one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy?
Franchising started to take off in Australia in the late 1960s in the automotive, petroleum and fast food industry. The first fast food franchise was Kentucky Fried Chicken (now KFC), opened in 1968 followed by Pizza Hut in 1970 and McDonalds and Hungary Jack’s in 1971.
The idea of Franchising quickly became popular with established businesses looking to increase their store footprint across Australia and with individuals wanting to operate their own business but with the support of a proven product or service and experience of a quality Franchisor.
Within 10 years there were approximately 180 Franchise systems operating in Australia with over 10,000 outlets. This grew by the turn of the century to over 700 systems and close to 50,000 outlets and today there are estimated to be over 1,000 systems and nearly 70,000 outlets.
The car rental industry has long embraced Franchising as an opportunity to develop markets utilising the local knowledge of Franchisees combined with the market power of a multi-national brand name. Redspot appointed its first Franchisee (then a Licensee) in 2004 when it joined forces with Executive Car Hire, a Perth based independent car rental operator. Initially servicing Perth CBD that business has now grown to include rental desks in all the terminals at Perth Airport.
A great opportunity
In 2015, Redspot finalised negotiations for itself to become the Master Franchisee for Australia and New Zealand of the largest car rental group in the world, Enterprise Holdings, which operates the Enterprise, National and Alamo brands worldwide. Enterprise operates over 1.5 million vehicles through 8,000 locations world-wide.
While retaining its identity and branding, Redspot will add these global brands to all of its locations making Enterprise and Alamo available for the first time in Australia. (National was previously available at limited locations for a short period under alternative ownership and management.)
In 2016 and beyond, Redspot will expand its network of locations across Australia both with new corporately operated locations and through a Franchise system offering all four brands to suitable applicants who share its passion to become the leading provider of vehicle rental services in Australia.
This is a wonderful opportunity to join the Redspot/Enterprise partnership at its start, help it achieve its objectives and enjoy the benefits of the success of these powerful brands.
