Do you need a car in Melbourne City?
While Melbourne’s got plenty of trams and buses, certain areas of the city are hard to reach. Plus, peak hour can be a huge deterrent! We recommend hiring a car so that you can get yourself wherever you want, whenever you want.
How do I find your Melbourne City branch?
We’re in an the ground level of a multistorey car park, located in the alleyway called McIlwraith Place, between Bourke St and 34-60 Little Collins Street. We’ll be waiting to say hi!
What are the Redspot Melbourne City opening hours?
YWe are open every day of the week! Visit us on Mondays to Fridays from 8am ‘til 5pm, and then on the weekends from 8am ‘til 1pm. Just note, when the city closes for a public holiday, so do we!
What is the safest car to rent?
All our vehicles are safe to rent! Each car is regularly safety checked, so you can rest assured that they’re reliable! On top of this, most have lane assist, forward collision assist, and emergency braking assist. You can’t go wrong with our fleet!
How close to full does your rental car need to be?
No need to worry, your rental car will be full of fuel when you pick it up! When it comes to returning it, it’s up to you if you want to refuel or not! Here are your options:
- You can prepay for a full tank at a discounted rate at the start of your rental period. This will save you the hassle of filling it up later, just note that there’s no refund for unused fuel.
- Only get charged for the fuel you use. This will be at a higher rate than above.
Can I rent a car in Melbourne as a tourist?
Absolutely! Temporary visitors can show their valid overseas driver’s licence and passport to rent vehicles from Redspot!
If you’re loving your time here and stay in Australia for longer than 3 months, that’s when you’ll need to transition to a local driver’s licence. This depends on the state or territory you’re travelling in, so check in with our friendly Melbourne team for local advice.
If your licence is not in English, we’ll need a translated version from your embassy or traffic authority in your home country.

Are there cameras in my rental car?
No, there are no cameras in your rental car. As a general rule of thumb, Redspot doesn’t install cameras in any of our rentals!
Does a rental car track your speed?
No they don’t. However, if you’re in the driver’s seat and get a little accelerator-happy, we’ll need to send you the fine at the address you provided.
We know it sucks but there’ll also be a $55 admin fee for this service charged to the card provided at the time of rental. Unfortunately, we can’t accept the fee for the fine itself, just the admin fee.
How much does it cost to rent a car in Melbourne?

How do I return my car to Melbourne Airport?
Simply bring it back to the airport by following the signs for the rental returns area. There’s only one dedicated area for this so you won’t miss it! You’ll find our car rental office right next to the parking area where you can return your keys to.
Do I need a full license to rent a car?
Nope! Anyone over the age of 21 with a valid provisional licence can rent a car providing you: :
- Have held your driver’s licence for a minimum of 1 year
- Have a driver’s licence that is valid for a minimum of 12 months from the date of rental collection
If you’re on your provisional driver’s licence, just remember to factor in the daily surcharge when you rent a car. This surcharge applies to all P-platers. Keep in mind that P-platers can also reduce damage cover to a maximum of $330!
Aged between 21 and 25? You have access to our range of small to medium-sized sedans and hatchbacks. Provisional drivers over the age of 25 can enjoy renting any vehicle available from our entire fleet.

Do I need insurance to rent a car in Melbourne?
All our car rentals come with a standard level of insurance coverage known as Standard Cover (DLD). Alternatively, check out our All-inclusive Package for a comprehensive insurance package that keeps you covered on your adventures.
Do you pay GST on car rental?
GST is included in all our Redspot rental charges, so you don’t have to worry about adding it on manually!
What is the minimum age to rent a car from Redspot?
You can rent a car with Redspot once you turn 21! We’re one of the few Aussie car rental companies that welcome young drivers to gear up with us.
Please note that drivers under the age of 25 are required to pay a surcharge and can only rent from our range of small to medium-sized sedans and hatchbacks. Once you hit 25, you’ll have full access to our entire fleet range.
If you’re between the ages of 21 and 24, you can reduce your damage cover to a maximum of $330.

What is the maximum age to rent a car?
With us, age is just a number! Having said that, we do require you to be over 21 to rent a car from us for safety reasons.
What is a mystery car rental?
A mystery vehicle is a way to add more adventure to your, well, adventure. Let us add some mystery to your time in Melbourne with a car fit for your purposes! The cherry on top? Score a discounted rate while you’re at it!
Do rental cars have sat nav?
Redspot’s rental cars don’t have sat nav. BUT most of our vehicles come with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, which allows for hands-free navigation, so look out for this when booking!
Be sure to BYO USB or USB-C connectors if you’ve booked a vehicle with these features and always remember to follow the law regarding mobile phone use when driving.
Do rental cars have a km limit?
The majority of our vehicles don’t have kilometre restrictions, however some commercial vehicles do. At time of booking, we’ll detail if its limited or not.
Can I return my rental car early?
Absolutely! You’ll just need to include their details in the rental car agreement before driving. They’ll also need to present their valid driver’s licence to us.
Does it cost more to have more than one driver?
Not if you’re renting on our all-inclusive rates! A surcharge could apply on certain rates, and if the additional driver is under 25 in line with our policies!
