Your bub will be as comfy as can be with our quality selection of rental baby seats. These convertible child seats can be placed in an infant rear-facing position for maximum safety. Perfect for children less than 1 year old and weighing up to 9 kg. Please note that baby capsules are not offered by Australian car rental companies.
Child Seat Hire
Redspot’s convertible car seat can be adjusted to a forward-facing position to keep your kids safe on the road. Ideal for children weighing between 9-18 kg. Please note that baby capsules are not offered by car rental companies in Australia, only reversible child seats.
Booster Seat Hire
Have your kids outgrown their convertible car seats? No sweat! We offer belt-positioning high back booster seats for your budding adventurers. These booster seats are designed to fit snugly into the back seat of your rental car, specifically in positions with lap and shoulder belts. Best suited for children weighing between 18-36 kg.

Safety is our top priority at Redspot, and in Australia it is a legal requirement that all children are securely buckled in a suitable child seat and restraint for their age and size. Not only does a perfectly-fitting car seat keep your little ones safe on the road, it’s a lot more comfortable too!
What type of child seat will I need?
The correct car seat for your child will largely depend on their age, weight and height. Keep in mind, this will naturally change as they grow! As a general guide for car seat hire in Australia:
- 0 to 6 months: Rear-facing baby seat with an inbuilt harness
- 6 months to 4 years: Rear-facing or forward-facing child seat with an inbuilt harness
- 4 years to 7 years: Forward-facing child seat with an inbuilt harness or a booster seat with a harness
- Over 7 years: Booster seat with a harness. If your child is taller than 145 cm, they’ll be able to use the standard seat and an adult seatbelt.
There may be exceptions to these rules depending on the height and weight of your little one. Before booking, make sure to check in with our Redspot experts to get your family ready for a spot-on fit and a smooth journey.

How can I add a child seat to my car hire booking?
You can add a baby seat, child seat or booster seat rental at the ‘Step 3: Options’ stage of your Redspot car hire booking. Too easy!
Get Your Car Seat Fitting Spot On
Safety is our Number 1 priority at Redspot. We voluntarily comply with Australian state laws and safety policies and therefore cannot install child seats for customers. However, we do offer detailed instructions on how to properly install them during pick-up.
Make sure your little ones are comfortably strapped into their car seats with these handy tips:
- Read the car seat instruction manual carefully! Installation will vary depending on the type of seat you have chosen. This manual will be provided by our friendly Redspot team when you pick up your rental car.
- Check that straps and belts are not twisted for maximum safety and comfort
- Listen for the seat buckle click when you strap your child in
- Ensure the harness isn’t loose by sliding your fingers between your child and the harness (only 2 fingers should fit)
Frequently Asked Questions
What Redspot rental cars support car seat hire?
Most of our Standard or Premium cars can support child car seat hire. However, if you are renting commercial vehicles like a van, ute or truck and require a child seat/booster, please contact your local Redspot branch to check!
Do you offer car seat fitting for rental cars?
We do not currently offer car seat fittings for liability reasons. Our staff will supply detailed instructions on how to install child seats and baby seats to make sure your little ones stay safe and secure on your travels.
Do you offer baby capsule hire?
No, baby capsule hire is not available from car rental companies in Australia — only rear-facing reversible seats. With Redspot, you can hire a reverse adjustable baby car seat that accommodates infants with safety and comfort. We also offer extension anchor straps at no extra cost! Perfect for vehicles that need that extra bit of length to secure the baby seat safely to its anchor point.
What car seat is best for a low birth weight baby?
A premature or low birth weight baby often requires a specially designed car harness to ensure they fit securely into a child car seat. If your newborn weighs less than 2.5 kilograms, let us know and we can help find the safest fit for your little one.
What happens if a rental car seat is damaged during my trip?
If your car seat hire is damaged during the trip, please note that you will need to replace the seat for its full cost.
