Frequently Asked Questions

What is the most wanted rental car?

The most wanted rental changes from location to location. However, the Toyota Camry is usually the reigning champion of car rentals at Redspot.

After the Camry, the next most popular car hires are the Toyota Yaris Cross and the Mazda CX-8. Find your vehicle of choice at our Townsville Airport branch!

Why do rental cars have cameras?

Some rental cars may have a dashcam or rearview camera installed for safety reasons. At Redspot, however, we want you to enjoy full transparency. We’ll tell you in the rental agreement if your vehicle has a camera installed.

We also value your privacy. Redspot will never install internal cameras to film you in your rental car.

Do rental cars track your speed?

No, Redspot values your privacy and we will not monitor your speed or general activity in your rental car. That said, don’t start racing on the highway! If you receive a speeding ticket or a fine while driving in a Redspot vehicle, we cannot pay the fine for you.

Speeding fines will be sent to the primary individual listed on the car rental document, along with a $55 admin fee.

Can rental companies tell if you vape in the car?

Redspot does not monitor your car or have any detectors installed that could tell if you are vaping. We value your privacy when you hire with us.

That said, most Aussie rental cars run a smoke-free fleet, including us! Please make sure to smoke or vape outside your Redspot rental vehicle. This helps you avoid any extra cleaning costs you may receive if your car smells like vape when you return it.

How close to full does a rental car need to be?

You don’t have to worry about fuel when you pick up your rental car! We’ll have your tanks full for you before you step into the driver’s seat. We offer a few refuelling options when it’s time to return your car:

  1. You can prepay for a full tank at a discounted rate at the start of your rental period. This will save you the hassle of filling it up later, just note that there’s no refund for unused fuel.
  2. Only get charged for the fuel you use. This will be at a higher rate than above.

Yes, you can! Tourists are welcome to rent with Redspot at Townsville Airport. We just need to see a valid overseas driver’s licence and passport before you hit the road! If your licence is not in English, we will need a translated version from your embassy or traffic authority.

We appreciate your style! Unfortunately, Lamborghinis are not available for hire at Redspot. Why not try a luxury SUV if you’re looking to ride in comfort and style?

How far in advance should you hire a car?

Depends on your plans! That said, the earlier you book, the better.

By booking in advance you can avoid added fees and guarantee you get the rental car you like the most.

Do rental cars in Australia have sat nav?

Sadly, Redspot hire cars do not come with GPS or sat nav systems. We’ve still got a plan if you need navigational help on your trip though!

Most Redspot rental cars have Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, so you can enjoy hands-free navigation. Stay safe while driving and get the most out of your mobile phone. Please note, that it is not legal to touch your phone while driving.

Be sure to bring a USB or USB-C connector with you to use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. Redspot does not provide mobile phone connectors, so it’s best to come prepared if you need navigational help.

Can P Platers hire cars in Queensland?

You can with Redspot! We’re one of the few Aussie companies that lets local P-platers over 21 rent a car.

Keeping you safe is always our main priority. We have a few safety rules designed to make sure you get to your destination without a hitch.

If you are a P-plater, you must:

  • Hold a Provisional P2 licence (green Ps).
  • Hold a driver’s licence that is valid for a minimum of 12 months from the date of rental collection.

When you rent a car, remember to factor in the daily surcharge. This surcharge applies to all drivers holding an Australian provisional driver’s licence. Keep in mind that P-platers can also reduce damage cover to a maximum of $330.

Aged between 21 and 25? You have access to our range of small to medium-sized sedans and hatchbacks. Provisional drivers over the age of 25 can enjoy renting any vehicle available from our entire fleet.

Check out our Provisional Drivers guide for all the details to get you geared up for the road.

Can I split-pay for the rental with my friend?

Yes, you certainly can at Redspot! Split payment is completely fine.

We just need one of you to be registered with us as the designated hirer. We also ask that the main credit card is in the designated hirer’s name. This is just in case you need to make any extra payments, like booking extensions or refuelling charges.

Do I need a credit card to rent a car with Redspot?

No trouble at all if you don’t have a credit card! Redspot is one of the few Aussie rental car companies that don’t require a credit card payment to use our services.

You can pay using a valid debit card, purchase order or prepaid voucher with Redspot. We know that flexibility is important, so we offer alternative payment options to get you going ASAP.
